Is it Possible to Control the Aging Process with Supplements?

Jean Santo

There’s a lot of talk these days about extending longevity; specifically, living longer as healthy individuals. With a variety of factors involved in determining a person’s lifespan (diet, exercise, genetics, and toxin exposure to name a few), we can only focus on the ones we can control. Wouldn’t it be great if we could impact our aging in a positive way to live longer, healthier lives? If studies in animals are any indication, there may be supplements that are able to do just that.

First, understand that as humans, our cells have a normal life cycle. They grow, divide, and die. If they fail to die, they become dysfunctional as they age and secrete pro-inflammatory substances that increase our risks of cancer, cardiovascular disease, autoimmune disease, diabetes, etc. So, you want your aging or senescent cells to die off. Cell death is called apoptosis. Removing these compromised cells is one current focus of anti-aging science. Agents that do this are called senolytics.

One class of senolytics with promise are the flavonoids. Flavenoids are naturally occurring plant pigments that have a wide range of effects in our bodies. They can produce antioxidant, anticarcinogenic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, immune-stimulating, and antiviral effects. And, because they occur in fruits and vegetables, they are safe to consume in abundance. Of these flavonoids, fisetin appears to be the most potent senolytic. Fisetin is found in strawberries, apples, persimmons, onions, grapes, kiwi fruits, peaches, and cucumbers (in order of concentration.)

As an antioxidant, fisetin scavenges free radicals which are implicated in the development of many diseases, including diabetes mellitus, retinal degeneration, neurodegenerative diseases, carcinogenesis, and ageing.

Fisetin is known to reduce tumor growth, reduce angiogenesis (formation of new blood vessels that tumors depend upon), and induce tumor cell death. Studies to date involve melanoma, pancreatic cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer, and colon cancer.

Because oxidative stress is a major contributor to stroke and atherosclerotic disease, fisetin, as an oxidative protectant, may be able to reduce the incidence of death due to strokes and heart attacks.

In studies, fisetin can extend lives of mice and of human tissue. I found no clinical studies published for humans at this time but the emerging evidence for its effectiveness in reducing disease and prolonging life is compelling. It is estimated that we may be able to prolong a human’s lifespan by 10 to 15% with the regular use of anti-aging senolytic therapy.

To help our patients clear out their old cells Advanced PainCare and BIoHealth Institute offers a Goodness Gurus fisetin supplement sold as Anti-Aging Senolytic Rx. It contains a combination of several factors to support the removal of aged cells: fisetin, quercetin, apigenin, and luteolin. Dosing is a bit different than you may guess. You take four capsules twice a day for five days each month. To my knowledge, there is no other supplement on the market with this unique combination of powerful anti-aging flavonoids.

Stop in at Advanced PainCare and BioHealth Institute today to start your anti-aging regimen.
